Message from Mayor Gregorich

Published on Monday, July 20, 2026

During the July 14, 2026, Council meeting, a resolution regarding the County Highway Overlay District was adopted. The resolution encourages the Moore County Commissioners and the Moore County Planning Board to retain the majority of the current Highway Overlay District standards. These standards were established to promote the general health, safety, and welfare of the community, protect the rural character of the area, and maintain and enhance the natural scenic beauty of the county's designated highway corridors.

The County is currently considering changes that would remove many of the long-standing standards within the Highway Overlay District. Through its resolution, the Council urges the Moore County Commissioners and the Moore County Planning Board to retain the existing standards, noting that reverting to the underlying zoning districts could result in inconsistent development and reduced building design standards, diminishing the scenic character and appearance of the highway corridor.

The resolution has been forwarded to the Moore County Commissioners and the Moore County Planning Board for their consideration. RESOLUTION #R26-02

I encourage all residents to stay informed and remain engaged in the actions of the Moore County Commissioners, as their decisions regarding the Highway Overlay District will have a lasting impact on communities throughout Moore County.
